Doon Animal Welfare Trust

Established in 2017, we are a registered Indian NGO for animal welfare. We believe in kindness above all. We have designed different programmes to ensure immediate help for animals in distress followed by care and protection. Our fundamental idea is to create an environment topographically, ecologically, and socially that all animals in our country can breathe fearlessly. We aim to protect 5,00,000 abandoned, homeless, street animals in the next 10 years.

Our Rescue Operations

We have shared our helpline number across Dehradun and its nearby areas. This has enabled us to rescue thousands of injured, sick, starving, abandoned or abused animals. Upon receiving a distress call, our rescue team takes immediate action and reaches the reported location. After a quick analysis of the concern, they take the needed steps to comfort the animal.
  • We receive 17,000+ rescue requests with an average of 46 calls per day.
  • We have rescued 13,775 ownerless animals in Dehradun and nearby villages.

Our Sanctuaries

We are Dehradun’s first shelter for abandoned animals. We provide food, daily care, and medical care to all the animals in our sanctuaries.

  • We have 3 shelters located in Dehradun’s Hasanpur Village, Sabhawala Village, and Shankri Village.
  • These 3 shelters are safe sanctuaries and permanent homes for 1,000+ animals including dogs, cats, donkeys, cows.

Our Gaushala

In keeping with the age-old heritage and spiritual realm, we have aligned our work by engaging in one of the most revered services – Gau Seva. Our Shri Krishna Dham Gaushala is the second largest gaushala in Uttarakhand. Here, we protect, feed, and provide shelter to ailing, starving, destitute and stray cows and bulls, majority of whom were either abandoned by their owners, saved from butchers, or found injured.

  • We shelter and feed 1,800+ cows and bulls.
  • Our dedicated Gau Sevaks work round-the-clock to provide complete care to these humble animals.

Medical Aid

Doon Animal Welfare is the region’s only hospital and rescue centre for street animals. Our helpline receives calls reporting injured and ill animals from Dehradun city and nearby villages.

  • We admitted 1,300 animals in our hospital for treatment – 1,000 cows, 150 calves and bulls, and 150 were donkeys, cats and other animals.
  • We conducted 9,500 on-site visits to provide medical treatment.
  • We vaccinated every animal admitted in our hospital against rabies and other common diseases.

Emergency Relief

During emergencies and disaster relief operations, we provide medical aid to affected or impacted animals.

  • We provided medical aid across India to mitigate the spread of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD).
  • We provided food to 30,000+ stray animals during the first COVID-19 lockdown.
  • Under our “Save Animal from Cold” Project, we provided dog collar and dog coat to around 3,000 stray dogs.

Hands for Humanity

Along with our core cause of protecting and providing care for abandoned and street animals, we have undertaken initiatives to extend support to the underprivileged communities during the hour of need.

  • We regularly distribute food and clothes to needy people in and around Dehradun.
  • As a part of our Winter Relief Programme, we distributed blankets to poor and homeless people.
  • We provided ration and hygiene kits to underprivileged communities as a part of our COVID-19 Relief Service.
  • We act promptly to provide relief aid to people and animals affected by natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, cyclones or landslides across India.
